COVID-19 Test Results May Take 4-10 Days

If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, call WhidbeyHealth Coronavirus Hotline at 360.240.4055. A nurse will help you decide whether you need to be tested, but keep in mind that there is no treatment for COVID-19 and people who are mildly ill may be able to isolate and care for themselves at home.

Patients can call to determine whether they meet criteria to be sampled for Coronavirus, COVID-19. Patients who meet criteria will then be registered for drive-through testing at the WhidbeyHealth Medical Center located at 101 North Main Street in Coupeville.

Patients who wish to be tested must first register by calling the WhidbeyHealth Coronavirus Hotline at 360.240.4055 to speak with a nurse from the medical center and get further instructions. At the drive-up facility, the medical team will take a sample nasal swab which will then be sent to one of the approved off-island testing laboratories.

WhidbeyHealth is not able to perform testing on site, limiting the turnaround time options. Although you may hear in the media about the availability of testing, the testing procedure is not designed for small local hospitals. We are collecting and submitting the samples to the reference lab on a daily basis. Due to the high volume of testing, the turnaround time from our reference lab is longer than ideal. (4-10 days) Flu testing is being done when requested by a provider per normal procedures.

WhidbeyHealth is providing health services, the tracing and tracking of patients and their contacts and all other epidemiological activities are managed by the Washington State Department of Health. Inquiries as to how that is being managed must be directed to them.
