Heartwise Screenings

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women. One in four people die from heart disease and a heart attack occurs every 34 seconds.

Promoting Heart Health

A powerful tool in the fight against heart disease is the WhidbeyHealth Medical Center "Heartwise" cholesterol screening, which promotes heart health and reduces the risk of cardiac complications.

The Heartwise screening includes a complete cholesterol, triglyceride and glucose panel and risk stratification. A registered nurse will discuss intervention strategies with you, answer your questions and develop an individualized holistic plan.

Knowledge Is Power

Heartwise Screenings will tell you:

  • Complete cholesterol test (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TC/HDL ratio, triglycerides)
  • Fasting blood sugar
  • Blood pressure and heart rate
  • Body Mass Index/Waist Hip Ratio
  • A 10-year estimated risk-projection of developing heart disease or stroke (based on the Framingham Study)
  • Cardiac risk factor consultation with a registered nurse

Lab results for these tests are obtained within 10 minutes via a finger stick and reviewed immediately during your personalized, one-hour consultation with a registered nurse.

Please fast for 12 hours before your appointment or eight hours if you are diabetic.

An individual screening is $100. Group screenings are available for $85 per person. An individual who has been screened can be re-checked for $90.

The screening is free for women with financial challenges thanks to the Heart of a Woman program sponsored by Soroptimist International of Coupeville, Oak Harbor and South Whidbey. Men with financial challenges, who live in Coupeville or Greenbank may also get the screening free through the Heart of a Lion program sponsored by the Coupeville Lions Club.

Screenings are available by appointment only on the first Tuesday of each month between 7 and 11 a.m. at the WhidbeyHealth Life Center,
