Board certified emergency medicine physician John Sherman, MD, joined our medical staff in 2004. He has a rich background in emergency medicine and practiced at more than 10 rural hospitals around the country before his arrival on Whidbey Island. He has served on the hospital’s Peer Review Committee, which evaluates patient care and helps ensure that high standards are maintained throughout the hospital. Dr. Sherman supports societal efforts to improve public health and safety and to broaden access to basic health care.

Scope of Care
  • Initial evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients of any age who require expeditious medical, surgical or psychiatric care for unforeseen illness or injury
  • Assessment, stabilization and coordination of care for patients who require transport to another hospital for more specialized care
  • Collaboration with primary care physicians, hospitalists and specialists to manage the patients who come to the Emergency Department to assure continuity of care
