Service Overview

If you have a wound that has not significantly improved during conventional treatment, you are not alone. Millions of Americans experience chronic or non-healing wounds.

Our Wound Care program specializes in outpatient services for patients with complex or slow-healing wounds, and those patients managing complete ostomy care. We also treat wounds that need special attention, such as follow-up care for trauma and burns.

Patients have access to some of the latest and most advanced wound care products and techniques:

  • The use of fluorescent imaging technology to identify the bacterial burden that may be present in chronic wounds.
  • Reduction of the bioburden or biofilm that frequently contributes to delayed wound healing. This includes specialized dressings and advanced skin substitutes that reduce the biofilm and promote faster wound healing.

Physician referral to this program is required. Health insurance companies and Medicare usually cover the costs of the treatments and most wound care supplies.

Certified Expertise

The WhidbeyHealth Wound Care program at our Medical Center is staffed by a team that includes a physician, a nurse practitioner, a registered nurse and a licensed practical nurse, all of whom have been trained and are certified in wound care. Our team is dedicated to helping wounds heal faster while reducing the risk of infection, hospitalization, and amputation.

Studies have shown that wounds heal faster and cost less when a certified wound care team is involved. Improvement is usually seen in the first week.
