L. David Carnes, PA-C, joined the WhidbeyHealth medical staff in 2020. Prior to that, David served 23 years in the Air Force. He was recognized by the USAF as the Outstanding Global Health Person of the Year in 2005, the same year he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in a combat zone. In 2009, David won the Department of Defense Excellence in Deployed Preventative Medicine award and became part of the prestigious White House Medical Unit treating the President and Vice President of the United States where he served until 2012.

David is an active volunteer for North Whidbey Fire and Rescue as part of their Marine Search and Rescue team. He has practiced medicine in 17 countries and 42 states and considers Augusta, Georgia, his hometown. He enjoys all the water activities that are plentiful in our area. If is it in, on, or around the water, he will enjoy it!
