You may have met Sarah Birger at Island Athletic Club where she is a fitness instructor or perhaps you’ve seen her on the Whidbey Island Garden Tour — she’s a long-time docent and President of their board. Many people know her from her years working at Bayview Garden. She and her husband Matthew Swett own Taproot Architects and are located at Bayview Corner. Deeply curious, Sarah is a life-long learner and empathic connector who has been variously described as “an inspiring instructor” who “radiates kindness, not ego” and has “the vibe of a female Mr. Rogers.” She began practicing yoga in 1994 and has taught on Whidbey Island since 1999. Sarah has picked up certifications along the way to be of service for people who want to be stronger, more resilient and in right relationship with their true self and others. Sarah is a Certified Yoga Therapist and tai chi instructor as well as a Buteyko Breathing Educator and senior fitness instructor in the SAIL program – Stay Active and Independent for Life! — both for WhidbeyHealth and in person at Soundview Center in Langley. She specializes in working with people who experience persistent pain particularly in the hips, knees, and feet. Her goal is to help people achieve “Better Balance” in all aspects of their lives
